The Pueblo West Utilities Department takes proactive measures to maintain our sewer system. Cleaning and inspecting District main sewer lines are essential to properly maintain a functioning system.
This work is primarily done during spring through fall. We do this work as time and weather permits. At any point in time, a cleaning crew could be in an area where there are main sewer lines.
At times during and after the cleaning process, a homeowner may experience: toilets gurgling, sewer odor or even some backups into the homes. Most times a backup event is caused due to the service lateral (lines between buildings and the main line) being clogged and/or the P trap has standing debris.
(P trap is a U-shaped section of pipe that holds water and prevents odorous gas in the plumbing drains and sewers from rising up through a toilet, sink, or floor drain into a home or business.)
